Our eternal father, who by the power of the Holy Spirit did institute the church that it may grow and support those who not only belong to it but exists for those who do not yet belong to it, embolden, strengthen and direct this same church universal to carry on the mission of the first Apostles, that we might see your kingdom come in the hearts and lives of peoples of this land and this world
God of all nations which through the promise given to Abraham determined that you would gather the world to yourself, enable those who work for peace and justice to administer power rightly so that the world may enjoy freedom from war, abuse of power, inequality, and brokenness, that your love pervades the hearts of all peoples so that we may experience one faith, one Lord, one baptism.
God of community, who is as interested in the individual as you are the larger picture, bless the people of this town with your grace and mercy. Continue to protect the police as they serve our community, give rest to those in our hospital that work unendingly, and give to those who work in the town a sense of community spirit. Gently prompt by your guiding Spirit the need to connect with you, encouraging those that do not go to church to make whole their lives by coming to church and getting to know you, that you become the most important part in people’s lives in Christ Church and in St Andrews.
God whose wounded heart for those who are in need draws alongside them, remain close to those who are suffering at this time. May your presence be tangibly felt, so that those who are troubled or are in need perceive that they are not alone in their distress, that it may be a real sense of comfort and encouragement. In a stillness of the moment we bring before God our needs and the needs of others….
God of the past present and future, who revealed yourself to people in various times and places in the past but who has been revealed to all in the living character and presence of your Son Christ, continue to reveal yourself, to inspire, to direct, to heal, to correct – as you have done in the example of the saints departed this life, that our lives may be good examples that can be counted with them.
We pray these things in Christ’s name. Amen.
